|Re-think on the proposed foot and cycle bridge 22 October, 2014|
The proposal for a foot and cycle bridge over the Cam on Ditton Meadows was discussed by Cambridgeshire County Council’s Economy and Environment Committee yesterday.
As reported on the parish council web site, there has been strong local opposition to this bridge, including a petition signed by 324 people. There were also many criticisms of the way the consultations so far have been run and reported, and the data used to justify the need for a bridge. These concerns were raised at the meeting by people from Fen Ditton and Chesterton. Our County Councillor, John Williams, gave a detailed outline of all the issues and proposed an amendment that would mean the proposals will not to go forward to a full planning application yet, allowing more time for consultation.
Most members of the committee acknowledged the depth of feeling from local people and the need for further work, and approved the amendment.
More details will be published as soon as the summary of decisions taken at the meeting becomes available. In the meantime here's a link to the story in the Cambridge News.[+ go back...]
